Shirley Reece


Shirley Faye Reece, 76, Glasgow, departed her earthly life surrounded by her family on Tuesday April 20, 2021 at the Medical Center, Bowling Green. She was born July 14, 1944 in Cave City to the late W Roy and Gracie Mae Gossett Sturgeon.

She was a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hart County, KY where she was a dutiful member until God called her to her heavenly home.

Shirley loved having her hands in the dirt working alongside her husband planting flowers and vegetable gardens. Her little dogs kept her company while she enjoyed her favorite hobby of sewing. Through the years she made memory bears for people near and far. Her most recent hobby was sewing snowmen with her sisters.

She was the heart of her family; leaving behind to honor her memory, her husband of 40 years, Wendell Reece; 4 children, Connie Pedigo (Ricky), Jeffery Sturgeon (Maria), Tabbitha Melton (Ervin), Samantha Garmon (Adam); 2 step-children, Tony Reece (Tina), Regina Poland (Randy); 8 grandchildren, Keiley Vandergrift (Michael), Sabrina Rowlett (Nathan), Zachary Sturgeon (Melissa), Krystal Sturgeon, Rheagan Melton, Tracy Sturgeon, Alyvea Garmon, Gracie Sturgeon; 6 great-grandchildren, Hayden and Tukker Berryman, Hadley and Linkoln Vandergrift, Kaylee and Kayden Rowlett; 7 sisters, Bettie Lou Pruitt, Mary Elizabeth Poole, Barbara Jean Hatcher, Runell Wood (Darrell), Pamela Brown (David) Patricia Pruitt (Sidney), Peggy Bass; 2 brothers, Roger Sturgeon, Melvin Sturgeon (Carolyn); one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Sturgeon and a host of nieces and nephews she greatly loved.

Preceding her in death are 2 brothers, George Sturgeon, Otis Sturgeon and 2 sisters, Bernice and Beatrice Sturgeon.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Friday April 23 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Cave City Cemetery. Visitation at the Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM and on Friday after 10 AM at the church until time of funeral services.
